About
Hi. I'm Florian.
I'm a software engineer based in Switzerland. Most of my work lives in the space between systems programming and data analytics - ingest telemetry, turn it into actionable information. I work a lot with systems that run on Linux, but would jump at a chance to work with embedded systems. I care about performance and solid engineering, and it has led me to Rust and Nix for most things. I currently work at Helsing.
My other area of expertise is motorsport. I was raised with a passion for it, and sunk an unreasonable amount of time into Formula Student during my uni years. From there, I went on to write software that determined the regulatory compliance of TCR cars, a job that soon evolved and became all about vehicle performance analysis. My current focus is race strategy in endurance motorsport.
If you want to get in touch, email me. My CV is here.

I doubt you're going to find words to live by in this blog. Asking around, you'd find that I am known for banter rather than wisdom. I'll thus leave you with the words that I myself keep coming back to, written by US president Calvin Coolidge a century ago:
Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On!' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
